Leatherface- Stormy Petrel

Among 10000 voices theres one you can't be wrong when guessing: Frankie Stubbs. Leatherface is back with a new lp, if you don't know these guys its quite a shame but no one is here to blame, right?
There are some really cathcy tunes, the last thing i heard from them was Last. I didn't like it.

American Football- ep/lp

Kinsella's brother are kind if impressive: Cap n jazz, Joan of arc, American Football, Owen, Owls, Make believe. These chicagoans are like monuments in the history of the indie/emo scene.
American football is Mike Kinsella (Owen, CapnJazz, Joa) and Lamos (The geese, Dms) who started to play with the johnson's bros under the name of The One Up Downstairs. These dudes went on to form another act. There come Steve Holmes. The band, who never had a bass player, beacame more of a studio project, displaying an incredible and touching music. Damn those tunes (from their only 2 releases) are so beautiful.
Mike Kinsella explained the band's name as follows: My girlfriend had been in Dublin, Ireland visiting her family. One of the things she brought home for me was a flyer for a Chicago Bears exhibition game that said: "Come see American Football, featuring the most overpaid athletes in the world." Something about that statement made me think of rock bands, most of whom are the most overpaid musicians in the world. When I suggested it as a name, the other guys thought it was dumb. Still, for whatever reason, we kept it.

Wormburner- songs

Wormburner is a four piece pop-punk band from Grand Rapids, MI who take a few cues from the gruffness of their other projects (North Lincoln, Traffic and Weather), but instead of power-chords their guitar work is firmly rooted in the melodic sides of bands like Potboiler, or maybe even Braid. Well a lot of bands I've posted on Yo get into it! You know about that? right!
Note: the upload is not the exact 7". You'll find out.

The Enablers- Sweet fuck all

Fuck sweet all. def "A very small quantity indeed"
My mind was wandering trough a lot of things while listenning to this ep. Which is great by the way and dates back 2002 for the record -FIY, I won't post somethnig i dislike...-
So i was thinking of my teenage years oh sweet romance while having a goo goo dolls song playing in the back while having an intense feeling of love for the girl I had a crush on at this time. I drifted to a bruce springsteen tune, giving a little southern accent to my emotions -The Enablers are from...Gainesville! what a surprise- then i thought about Mike Ness and Frankie Stubbs listlessness voice. Social D, Leatherface...all of this in 6 tracks?! Give it a shot, rough melancholy is beautiful. Fact: Rob Coe -guitar- played in Faywray (noidearcds)

Osker- Idle will kill

Back to my teenage years except that I discovered this record late 2009! Its weird that i never go into this record before as I had some interest in the epitath catalog back in '01. So almost ten years, uh!
I heard some stories of devon williams, Osker's leader per say, one of the most hated guy in punk rock.
"The world is a carousel of people who don’t know what the hell they are talking about. With this in mind, Osker receives criticism from lemmings who are determined to slam the band because of their reputation. Kids don’t know Devon Williams (vocals, guitar) personally, yet they feel security and freedom to call him an asshole. Furthermore, some people receive a sense of accomplishment by writing “your bands sucks” on the Osker messageboard, a mature act which must not go unnoted. However, these actions are more of a reflection of the trivial lives some people lead rather than the quality of the music Osker makes. Don’t be lead astray by the “most hated” tag. Although Devon’s cynicism and brutal honesty can get him in trouble from time to time, that’s no reason to overlook Idle Will Kill."

Idle will kill is a masterpiece. A must have pop-punk record that i cannot compare to another act. Meayb Dillinger Four but just replace the political songs with teenage angst. There are songs absolutely anthemic. Songs like disconnect disconnect or kinectic have haunted me for days. You can lable this punk rock as Osker didn't give a tiny fuck of all that criticism and managed to record something very different from their first lp, giving a different direction while sticking to pure honesty.

Castevet- summer fences

Seriously, this thing blew my mind. Take large instrumental post rock parts, the moving of appleseed cast, the beauty of american football, the pure air explosions in the sky is providing, mix with gruff voals from time to time, and you'll get chicago's Castevet. This is damn good. I mean you got to make things right when you mix thoses ingredients. To give decent credits to bands like casket lottery small brow bike and the aformentionned ones. Really brilliant, i'm out of superlatives and thats ok.
New songs are up along the awesome art of their myspace page. New album The Echo & The Light out 23.2.10.

Let '010 roll!

Hey there!
I took some time off. Xmas holidays.
By the time every site post their annual awards I'm still amazed by the joy punk rock continues to bring me every day. Another year has passed, so what? I have no peculiar resolutions, I would not quit vegetarianism, still love my girlfriend like the first day, continue to buy records and ride my bike. I'll have some drinks and some rehearsals with friends... nothing extraordinary, fight daily routine with little things that makes happy.
Take care all. Happy fucking new year.
Go packers.

Echoes of Harper's ferry- Never forget

A record filled with with passion and honesty. I'm not getting tired of gruff punk acts, but sometimes bands can be outta line. I find in this record well crafted songs, simple-efficient chords and raw vocals line, great hooks that caught me quick in looping the 12 tracks effort. -Only the acoustic song kinds of bored me- EOHF are from Cleveland and on lock and collective (same as Captain we're sinking). If you want references i'll say smallbrownbike/bannerpilot/lawrence arms/punkrock.. Apart from trying each time to relate to other bands, I'll say that this record is just worth it, it fucking kicked my ass.

Hard girls- Hello

Hard girls are a three piece band from San Jose, Ca. Does it have something to do with their sound. Sometimes i do believe there's a link.
I find in this ep different influences, from the hot water music inspiration of Quinceanara, to the danceable Lazer parade to some classic indie punk rock mixed with enthusiastic singing parts flirting with folk punk stuff. And I like the cover.

Comadre- a wolf ticket

My dear friend Salt'n'peppa, aka Vince put this record on and I'm saying: "what's that?" (well I'm always asking when I've never heard of before-or forget-)So he says its the last Comadre record. I digged the thing and I now pick up the words from punknews because its exactly how i felt about it:
Comadre was fast, sporadic and angry. It all just seemed like a giant mess, but over time the mess began to make sense, with the intensity opening up to great hooks and melodies that range from fist-pounding to danceable. All of this and more is encapsulated in their most recent effort, A Wolf Ticket.
Ranging from Refused to Kid dynamite!I fucking love it, Jenny!
