Bottle rocket- demo

Some more Long Island sound with this now defunct band which showed great promises!
Catchy hooks, awesome singalong choruses, ala latterman second-guitar riffs. It's not the same dimension as all the bands i put here but it's definetly worth a try especially for the first song "I want to watch the grass grow"

ps: It's a free demo, and after played only something like 20 shows you can't get it anymore...check the link to know more about the separate ways they took...

A wilhelm scream- career suicide

This was my favorite album of 2008. I saw them twice a row in a month and i was so amazed by the way they make easy their complicate-structured songs with so much smile and passion while hitting the chords hard.
Massachussets' AWS, fronted by Nuno Pereira got bigger (playing leeds&reading this year), but they seem to stay honest and we had a nice chat sharing a beer with the guys -they did not lock themeselves in their gigantic tourbus!- Career suicide is truly one of the greatest thing i've ever heard. I put it on repeat as much as "enema of the state" when I was a teenager!

Explosions in the sky- How strange, innocence/The Earth is not a cold dead place

Some more post rock.
La crème de la crème.
Explosions in the sky...Wow, how deep can you go when you listen to their music? It's overwhelming. It's brilliant, the king is undethroned at that point...Many tried to imitate them, and failed. The Austin quatuor music is epic; it leads you to paths you never been before. It's subtle but firm (the beat) It's solid but it can melt. (amazing guitar hooks). It's just a monument.
Well I'm gonna stop here before i get too psyched...Check their discography if you want some more.

Caspian- You are the conductor/The four trees

Let's go for some post rock.
Caspian are a band from Beverly, Ma. Who thought Texas was like the center of all attentions concerning post rock excellence with bands like Explosions in the sky and This will destroy you?
Well, I shyly raise my hand...
So Caspian's music is basically these bands mix with Sigur rios, Isis (instrumental)...
Explosiveness, beautiful guitar hooks, crushing loops are a part of their recipe to reach the upper level of the post rock scene.

Onguard- This has its price...demo

Jason Shevchuk is the singer and 6 stringer in None more black and LaGrecia. He's formerly the singer of Kid dynamite, and before that used to sing in the scremo band Bound. The man's almost a legend. Onguard was is solo project that led to Lagrecia without the intention of doing so. But well, life is full of surprises. Here are the demos. Enjoy!

Latterman-

I don't even know how to start a review. I think I'll pass on that. Maybe some of you punx don't know this band -I doubt- from Huntington, Long Island. So much passion and intensity...This band is no more and there have been several project post latterman (Shorebirds, Life rocks!, Rvivr, Iron Chic). The name of my blog is after one of their most amazing song, so you know this is one of my favorite band ever...

Polar bear club- The better the redder ep

Polar Bear Club are now a name that almost comes along every talks about the punk rock scene, and you can't miss it if you narrow your conversation to new york upstate Rochester (Achilles, How we are...)
Ex-marathons kinda popped out with this strong and cohesive ep. The dual vocals provides a melodic approach and a much more intense, gruff vocal delivery giving much depth to the songs. Comparisons with Milloy will be drawn in the vocal department. An ep that's approaching perfection. Post hardcore/90s emo stuff/punk rock are the tags you can put on this. If you ever wanna tag...

North Lincoln- Midwestern blood

Gran rapids, Mi, North Lincoln strikes back. It's been 10 years since they've been honing their sound and now it seems like they have typify the "no idea" sound. Midwestern blood's blazing mid tempo rock anthems, filled with gruffly sung/shouted vocals and catchy harmonies are the best thing they have done over this 10 year span, still crisscrossing between Samiam and Jawbreaker, what they fist started the band for (90's sound of Berkeley) and Leatherface/Hot water music..

Defiance, Ohio- Share what ya got

I could no resist to share what I got. Maybe because I'm going to see 'em play tonight. Defiance, Ohio is one of the first band which introduced me to the folk punk rock scene, leading me to Plan it X records, 1.2.34 and lot of bands I'm still into, adding to the no idea catalog that remains like my bible. Hey Kathleen...stucked in my head for days! I hope if you don't know these dudes and ladies from Columbus that it'll produced the same effect, there are so much good songs on this record. Share what ya got was released in france by three sweet dudes that i would like to thank!

Chasing paperboy- Demo/ Always troubles but different stories ep

I'm french and the most i'm adding to our little punk rock world are american bands...So no one asked me "w.t.f? no good bands in France?". No one...But you'll come with an answer after listenning to Chasing Paperboy.
I don't know if it's the sun, i don't know how many paperboys are there, in Nice, and i don't know if it's the mediterranean sea but their power/pop/punk ala Osker, Second Rate (almighty band from France) is one of the most decent thing i heard over the past couple of years. I remenber when i first heard "Another place downtown": they are gonna get huge! Very catchy -with an absolute shitty english accent- good melodies...and then they released an ep on their own label (truffle shuffle mostly run by Brian, 6 stringer in CP). The structures became more complex, fitting into the recipe of emo/punk songs, but the singalongs stucked. I've seen these dudes live, they totally kicks ass.
Their latest thing is a split with the also very good Mikey Randall.

Captain we're sinking- what could be worse?

Cool name, uh? They play good music too.I'm putting here the demo which is for free on their myspace page, but i've added the "the animals are out" version of "think of the repetition", a brilliant #1 pick, and 2 other songs you can stream on the same aforementionend page, acoustic ala Dashboard bringing to our ears a passionate voice. This said, their songs looks like more of a long island sing the fuck along band meets the dukes of hillsborough than an mtv pop rock icon. Check 'em out, from Scranton, Pa.

Potboiler- 7"/demo/5songs-artoftheundergoundserie-

Potboiler
1. is a term used to describe a poor quality novel, play, opera, or film, or other creative work that was created quickly to make money
to pay for the creator's daily expenses.
2. is also a band that splitted up.
Even if they are no longer a band does not mean you don't have to get into it. From Brooklyn, these dudes released some serious good stuff. You won't be surprised that most comparisons can be drawn with Get Bent (beacause ex-potboiler!), Thousandaires and the common shit i'm posting on this blog. But hell yeah, this is good shit.

Shook ones- the unquotable A.M.H

Shook Ones is kind of becoming a monument in the punk hardcore scene. They deliver since '03 an east coast punk (even if they're from the state of Washington) in the vein of Lifetime and Kid dynamite. "Cet album est putain de mortel". Singalongs, intensity, very bright sound, this record is off the charts! Beautiful artwork...

"Order form" from the split with Easel. One of my fav' song ever!

My heart to Joy- seasons in verse

This record is shining bright. Connecticut based MHTJ is starting to put all the potential the reviewers had given to 'em on this cd! A variety of influences, a bit of the past, the 90's!, a bit of deep elm mixed with a hint of dischord. Its like 90's emo stuff as drive like jehu mix mix with passion of bands like latterman. A lot of emotions, this is raw, this is good.

Lemuria- Get better

Debut album for Asian Man rcds.
Lemuria is a three piece band from Buffalo, with Sheena Ozzella and Alexander Kerns sharing vocals. Ozzella’s higher, cheerful voice directly contrasts Kerns’s subdued, monotone voice. Very solemn, everything is in the right place, catchy harmonies. A totally sweet album which can be appreciated not only by our fellow little fucks punks-indies-emoes of mid 90's, but, the mass! Like Paramore is...
