Castevet- The echo and the light

Damn this artwork is beautiful.
Some info concerning this release:
"after the release of this record had been pushed back several times, we decided to part ways with big scary monsters. as such, 'the echo and the light' was not released today -24th feb 010-. there is good news, however: the album will be re-recorded with 2 bonus tracks (that's 8 songs total for those of you keeping score) and will be released as a 12" in may.
we will have more information about the labels involved, a short midwest tour, and other releases very soon. we apologize for the delay, but we're looking forward to having the final version of the album on vinyl in a few months."
This is the 6 songs preview, more screaming parts. I love this band, if i was a teenager maybe there will be Castevet's posters hanging on my walls. damn straight!

La dispute- Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair

Its funny how an album can stick you. I mean, you hear it and you immediately know that there is depth in it, that there is The something that is gonna make you press play again. Great records are made of this...
Poetic verbal lyrics, incredible vocal performance between spoken words and shouted words back up by perfect music (post rock elements, progressive, arpeggio, ambient til the hardcore break with furious guitars or simply )
Its kinda of soul hardcore if I had to label it, just because its like your consciouness speaking to you about struggles in life, society...with hardcore elements ala touche amore/comadre or thrice old stuff.
Think about Lack.

Paul Baribeau- Unbearable

Here it is, probably late among my blog comrades but I'm not running for exlusivity.
I took some time to listen to it. I try to avoid the comparaison with Grand Ledge but I can't. Such an awesome record.
I love "how could that be true" , the way he sings "give me all...give me all ..." and the way it comes back in the song.
I find the voice more mellow (softer), a little more high pitched too. There are lots of long lasting syllables if you know what I mean ala "Blue cool" song. Not that I really dislike it, but its less punchy.
The guitar chords are still efficient, like "Black Strat" is, but I have harder time to get a crush on Unbearable.

Electric Vein- ep

Back to my heydays when I lived in Clermont Ferrand. I was absolutely found on this band, their live performances were always cool!
I like how they shaped their songs, you can feel its young, but its passionate. Its pretty much 4 dudes (from Lezoux!) jamming at their rehearsals, coming with a killer guitar riff and building around. The melodies in here are great, think of Washington Dc's Dischord (Bluetip/Fugazi) with that Husker du influence they can't deny, putting the nice hook at the right time.

They eventually broke up. Seb plays in Sofy Major, Rene started Village (for which I learn the bass for a few songs and played a little with them) Matt played bass in Stetson and Ass Bandit. Remi was the drummer for Ass bandit and played guitar in a rock band I can't remember the name...

Here's as a bonus the 3 tracks from Village first demo. Post rock elements, some delay shit and pounding rythms and some yelling. This is great.

Epileptic- The first day of my second life

Here's another band from Poitiers, France. I remember the first time my friend Dam put the cd in his record player, filling his dorm room with something i totally disliked. For him and for me, 2004 was like Against me's As the eternal cowboy and Epileptic's the first day of our second life, tough only tom gabel was echoing in my head...
I bought the lp this year!!!And to this date, its what has been the most played on my turntable!
This is pure genius, the lyrics are perfect, the melodies are brilliant...The best french album of the last decade. No doubt about it.
Thanks to Dam for ripping this serious act of perfection.
