Thousandaires- Million dollar move two dollar shot

Thousandaires: When someone who comes from an impoverished background shows-off with (often tasteless) flashy jewelry, expensive phones, etc. to demonstrate that they are not as broke as their friends; they're "in the big leagues" because they are not living-off welfare, etc. Pretending to be rich on a small budget.

Charles Bukowski- Hostage

L'écrivain que je lis le plus. Parfois même le seul.
"I come from San pedro to put Redondo beach on the map...tonight is gonna be a very dignified reading"...voila comment commence ce disque enregistré au milieu des années 80, une lecture par Bukowski lui même de ses poèmes.

Amanda Woodward-

Amanda Woodward -apart fron the character in you-know-the-series-from-the-nineties- is a french band from Caen.
Abstract lyrics -more like fragments of conversation- sung in french. It's not a so-called "unique band" but they are in France well respected and gave the lead to some followers. They mixed (speaking in past tense...) punkrock with emo/screamo elements. This being said, I think that's a bit harsh of a definition. I have hard times lablling bands, i'd like not to give an etiquette to amanda woodward. Intricate but urgent guitars, galloping rythms when needed, but with enough maturity and great composure in songwriting to slow down the tempo on some songs, even with some dub rythms on bass or drums.
And if Amanda woodward -the character- landed in France, Amanda woodward -the band- took off on Level plane records.
Resuming statement.
"their songs are not long, epic passages; they’re short, passionate bursts of energy that convey the band's political message in radical form. Post-rock instrumental passages, chaotic screaming, thundering guitars, and it’s tied together with a social and political message all their own."
Bottom line: get into it.

Cycle to/Kids against crosses- Split

La feutrine & Truffle shuffle rcds released this split record available only on cd. Truffle shuffle is run by Brian, who played guitar in Chasing paperboy (see entry below...)
Two french bands, three tracks each.
Kids against crosses -from cagnes sur mer/nice- features 6stringer/vocalist of chasing paperboy, Jean, the french accent with english lyrics is recognizable among many others- that makes the little something you love or hate. Some horns goes along Jean's fast-folk guitar chords played by the other member of KAC, Ben.

I do prefer the cycle to side. Young band from Paris, I really dig 'em because as in the states there's a post-latterman wealth scene, in France it seems like cycle to is the only band claiming Latterman's influences. They do it real good, doing somewhat better than some american bands.

Wayfarer- our fathers

Mid tempo punk rock, from Ontario-Canada. Something like the riot before meets mockingbird w.m.l/midwestern bands/no idea catalog/poppunk elements with blazing sing alongs, raspy vocals & sharp hooks. This is a very good album, or as my friend Vince says "record of the summer".
I tend to agree with my manchild bro'.

Karate-

For those of you who never heard about Karate, here's the deal/
Quick history setup: Geoff Farina, Eamon Vitt and Gavin Mccarthy formed Karate in 1993 in Boston and broke up in 2005 mainly due to Farina's hear problems...Jeff Godard joined the band in 1995 and Vitt left to pursue a medical career in 1997.

They played a weird mixture of indie rock, jazz, post rock, labelled punk for their diy ethic and were very prolific considering the sense of details they have in their songs. (7 ep or 7" and 7 lp's) It's beautiful to hear such well played music. From the groovy bass lines to the jazz guitar jams and a perfect drumming.

Without further ado here's a lot of their releases (Southern records)

Eric Ayotte

If you browse the web and check Eric Ayotte's reviews or things about the man you just find everywhere that he is the kindest man and funniest man you'll ever meet. So I met him at the fluff this year and had the opportunity to talk to him a little bit in the aftertoon and a bit more after his amazing show in the party tent. What they say is true: he's a really nice and funny man and his show....i have no word for it, i didn't except it woulda give me such emotions. damn i'm voiceless...
Eric Ayotte played in Air Raid Barcelona, plays in Halo Fauna and performs solo. He still manages to make some videos in kinda crew "Cob Job" from Bloomington, works on this project called the GADABOUT TRAVELING FILM FEST. He takes submissions of short films from indy/punk/lo-budget film makers and picks the best hour or so of them and takes them on tour. He books these tours just like a punk band does and shows the films at punk shows/coffee shops/acoustic shows/movie nights etc.
Here's to you a lot of his music work. Please buy some of his stuff, through him via his myspace or via noidea or deadbrokerekerds or any other distros....
Heartfelt and passionate songs check it out!!

Owen- at home with Owen

4th full-length for Chicagoan Mike Kinsella. 8 tracks of soft ambient music, beautiful studio work (piano/violin) that install Kinsella's voice in your mind wherever you are. The man has made a lot of albums over the years, and it didn't get repetitive. Talent, right?
It goes along right with rainy days, hazy days of winter!
Maybe if you have no reference on, you can think of Jonah Matranga. Raspy and kind of hesitating voice...

Femme fatale is a cover of The velvet Underground.
Fact 1. I do not appreciate that much TVU.
Fact 2. Femme fatale is "Lethal woman".
Fact 3. Listen to Owen.

RVIVR- st Lp

Two voices that play off each other real nice: these are Matt Canino and Erica Frea.
Here is rvivr first full lenght and they are supposed to hit an european tour around sept/october 2010. I'm trying to make them play in Lyon. Ouh yeah.
Catchy punk rock- you can't forget Latterman in a blink on an eye- and no tune takes it outta path traced by nice singlaongs and beautiful guitar work as always.
Great record. This band is awesome..no, seriously: awesome.

Hanalei- One big night

Here is Brian Moss' 3rd full lenght due june 1st at Scary Big Monster. Brian Moss was part of The ghost a band from Berkeley which moved to Chicago and Olehole.
I was enough touched by this record to give to you the streaming version. So it's advanced version, a sort of ygii exclusive thing. (What did I tell about that on a previous post?!)
I had a major crush on the "the eigth nerve" song, heavily looped! Nice hooks, brilliant chorus with collegial singalong. Damn I like this song.
The rest of the album, it's like almost four minutes songs, indie folk pop, light with more upbeat hints. The song moth to the flame comes here like a k7 recording of vivida-vis!
You'll get it, I'm not good at reviewing, I should probably stick to my short stories.

After songs, there are more songs. One way not to bother on a complex title.

There will be playing to shows in France in june; marseille on th 10th and Rennes on the 13th.

Cheap girls- My roaring 20's

I saw a video of Ian Graham solo opening for american war. I thought it was a even better version of the song on the lp.(sleeping w.)
Cheap girls made me think of a band I listenned a lot when I was a teenage boy, Gin Blossoms. I like the sound of this voice. Good mood and melancholy, crooning with the four power pop chords that make out.

Nana grizol- love it love it

Sweet sweet.
Empowered by d.i.y venues and nurtured by 150 acres of open land this is Nana Grizol.
A horn section (as mellow as the horns in weakerthans) from Neutral Milk Hotel (2/6 of N.G) a harmond piano/xylophone/harmo, a rythm section and the voice and guitar of Theo Hilton, Defiance Ohio's alum. What you got? Just a perfect album. Defiance Ohio meets Bright Eyes meets Juno meets MJ touchdown pass!

Let me just talk here about the "150 acres of open land" -yeah you can browse google too-

Orange Twin Conservation Community (OTCC) is a limited liability company (LLC) formed to create a pedestrian-based eco-village and preserve open space on more than 150 acres (0.61 km2) of land located five miles (8 km) north of downtown Athens, Ga. The eco-village is still in the planning and development stage. OTCC was founded in the late 1990s by Laura Carter along with two friends, Laura Glenn and Barbara Denvir. Together they developed the initial concept of a village-style community in the Athens area. They also scouted and eventually found a large tract of undeveloped land with two perennial streams and much wooded acreage suitable for the community.

Sometimes Madeline Adams plays bass and sometimes it seems she doesn't. Yet she's beautiful. -She played an encore of what it seemed just for me as I asked dumpster dive mother in Dijon, France.
This being said I'm far from the subject so let's re-focus:

Perfect album of sunny days in wheat fields, of biking away from the city and living lightly. Going by the river and eating seitan by the shore, enjoying the reflection of the sun on the water and feeling free.

Sweet, sweet.

"Summer in my town is nice, my front porch is my paradise
and I can sit here every night, yes I can watch the world go by"

Sports

I don't know if some of you watch/follow/love/ basketball and ice hockey but I love those two sports very fucking much and what's happening in the nba and nhl playoffs is crazy!

I remember asking Adam Goren a.k.a Atom & his package in an interview if the Flyers will make the playoffs: it was some years ago and the flyers fans must be astonished this year. Down 0-3 Philly makes it up the the 7th game (whichis already a miracle) but after losing 0-3 after a period AT Boston in this oh so important last game, theyscores 4 in a row to close the series! Even more miraculous. (The Islanders did it twice in a row in '75)
The Canadiens are seed eight. One week before the end of the regular season they didn't know if they were gonna make it. And in 7, they beat the Capitals and the Penguins (last year SC's winner) and reach the Eastern conference finals where they meet...the Flyers. And guess the seed? 7!
So in the east we've got #7 vs #8! (In the West it's #1 vs #2...)
Go East.

I've been playing basket ball a lot, since I was 9. 1993. Just after the Dream Team (yeah, capital letters) blew everything away in the '92 summer olympics in Barcelona.
I grew up with Bird, Johnson and then just M.J.
So I'm always pleased when the Bulls make the playoffs. (None in the early 00's, but brilliant like against the Celtics in a 7 game 7 Ot last year!)
To make it short, because I just wanted to write these things because these sports bring me joy: and because Boston ejected the Cavs):
-The C's rules.
-Orlando is very strong.
And the suns have to kick the goddamn lakers asses!!
Boston-Phoenix. Great finals.
Because I've grown with Jordan I can't stand K.Bryant and to some extent, L. James.

Jawbreaker- live NY 1993

I'll try to put more records like this: bsides/rarities/bootleg, non commercials records.
There are lot of blogs where you can get the latest releases, and as I don't run for exclusivity I don't see why I'll continue on posting brand new records, especially for very well-known bands...
